DVD - NYCHA Administrative Hearings: Tenant Defense and Advocacy

This introductory training will focus on defending and advocating for tenants in NYCHA administrative hearings. The trainers will examine termination hearings, discuss negotiating settlements, and describe updates on recent policy and case law developments. Participants will learn about the basic hearing procedures and the rules/regulations that govern them, how to approach settlement negotiations, and how to devise litigation strategies.

About the Faculty

    Rebecca Greenberg (Speaker)

    Originally from Toronto, Canada, Rebecca is a 2001 graduate of McGill University with a B.A. in International Development Studies. Following graduation, she worked in New York City as a Legal Advocate with the Urban Justice Center's Homelessness Outreach and Prevention Project, where she helped clients fight eviction and obtain welfare benefits. Rebecca then lived and worked in Mexico for the Centro Ecologico Sian Ka'an, a community-based Mexican NGO focused on channeling eco-tourism dollars to fund environmental education programs in local schools. She is a graduate of the CUNY School of Law, where she was a member of the New York City Law Review Editorial Staff, the Public Interest Law Students Association, and a Teaching Assistant for the Economic Justice Project Lawyering Seminar, and Legal Intern with the Battered Women's Rights Legal Clinic. Rebecca was awarded the Charles H. Revson Public Interest Fellowship, which she used to spend the summer working at Make The Road By Walking in Bushwick with Basta!, an environmental justice and housing project. She is fluent in Spanish.

    Maura McHugh Mills (Speaker)

    Maura McHugh Mills has been with Legal Services NYC since she graduated from Fordham University School of Law. She is dedicated to social justice work and committed to housing rights and public benefits access. She spent a large portion of her time as a staff attorney at Legal Services NYC-Bronx and then transitioned to Brooklyn Legal Services in 2014. Maura lives in Brooklyn with her partner and two children.
